Coaching — Explained In Simple Terms

As per ICF, Coaching is
“ ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership. “
What is ICF?
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the leading global organization for coaches and coaching. ICF is dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification, and building a worldwide network of trained coaching professionals.
Now, these are definitions from the official website. If you ask me, “What is Coaching” — My personal experience of being a client and also a coach is :
“Coaching is the continuous journey for both Coach and Client to change the status quo for the client”
Let’s break this down in each part so that there is a better understanding for yourself. Look, no further.
Coaching — It’s the process we are speaking about
Continuous — it’s an ongoing process. Even if one of your problem/confusion is clear off, you can use the same process for the next one.
Journey — it’s not a one-step solution. A step-by-step activity that will get you hooked up to coaching either as a Coach or a Client for the long term. You will start seeing the benefits in the very short term.
Coach — A person who handles the process/coaching session
Client — A person who seeks guidance/support or help
Change — a movement from the status quo
for the client — In a Coaching process, it’s all about the Client
